A chain of high quality fast food restaurants, Buenas Migas create a unique and delicious blend of sweet and salty dishes inspired by the best of Ligurian (Italian) and Cornish (English) cuisine. Buenas Migas are dedicated to creating fresh and simple dishes that are reasonably priced. Their point of difference is the exceptional quality of their products at their market level, which are crafted using traditional recipes and the finest, natural ingredients.

When Buenas Migas asked us to produce their communication materials – from packaging and signage to promotional posters – our goal was to express the main concept: fresh produce and artisan methods. Our idea was simple. If everything the restaurant does is crafted and natural, we could express this honesty by creating a palette of visual elements made entirely by hand. Consequently, the graphics for product labels, bags, boxes, coffee cups, price tags and signage are all handmade. Even when items needed to be reproduced in large quantities or at large scale, we retained the handmade, crafted spirit expressed through type, illustration and color.

We selected a chunky, commercial typeface – Futura condensed bold – to complement this handmade approach. Combining delicate watercolor illustrations with a bold typeface created a mainstream identity with an edgier, more natural feel that sets Buenas Migas apart from their competition.
